GLASTONBURY’S Bertie Garratt has expressed his appreciation for the "positive feedback" he received after taking part in ITV2 reality show The Cabins.

Bertie, 23, received around 1,700 Instagram messages after his first appearance in the reality series last week, and his follower count has since grown to just over 35,000.

He also appeared on Claire Carter’s BBC Radio Somerset show on Monday morning, where he discussed his time on the show, his experiences on social media, and life in Somerset.

When he is not on TV or the radio, Bertie runs a painting and decorating business, The Brush Brothers, with his brother Harry Garratt.

In The Cabins, singletons are paired up to move into a luxurious cabin together for at least 24 hours the first time they meet, creating what ITV describes as “the most revealing first date of their lives”.

After spending a day in each other’s company, they decide if they would like to extend their stay in their cabin or part ways.

After he was approached by the show’s producers, Bertie shared a cabin with Annabelle, 23, who lives in Surrey.

She runs a beauty training academy with her sister Megan, 19, who was on the show at the same time.

Bertie and Annabelle spent two days in their cabin, Stag’s Mount, before they decided to leave as a ‘cabin couple’ when the series came to an end.

On Saturday night, the pair featured in The Cabins: Out of the Woods, which saw presenters Yasmine Evans and David Potts catch up with the contestants who left their cabins as couples.

Over a game of table tennis, Bertie and Annabelle revealed they have continued to message each other since leaving Stag’s Mount and shared details of a dinner date.

They are planning to see each other again in February, when they will join other members of the show's cast in a group outing.

Although he was unsure what reaction he would receive from viewers, Bertie says he was inundated with kind messages when his episodes aired.

“It was quite hard to watch, actually,” he said.

“I was nervous of what people would think."

Once his first episode was broadcast, his nerves were replaced by appreciation for the support he received from his friends and the show's fans.

He said: “I had about 1,700 message requests on Instagram, and I replied to as many as I could to say thank you.

“It’s all been positive feedback, saying I came across really nice.

“It’s good for my confidence as well to get so many positive messages.”

After initially being undecided on whether he should take part in the show, he decided to grasp the opportunity with both hands and would encourage anyone presented with a similar chance to take it.

“I’m glad I went through with it,” he said.

“It was like a holiday, and I met loads of new people.”

You can watch Bertie in The Cabins on ITV Hub.

He appears with Annabelle in episodes 16, 17 and 18 of series two.
