A TAUNTON hairdresser has been handpicked to style some of the world’s top models at New York Fashion Week.
Cameron Willetts will work behind the scenes at the event which attracts designers such as Chanel and Dior in a whirlwind weekend which will see him working alongside leading stylists.
Former Taunton School student Cameron, 23, was invited to attend the event by celebrity British hairdresser Matthew Curtis, after winning a place on the prestigious hair finishing school Project X, run by the Fellowship For British Hairdressing.
Cameron, director of Combers Inside Out hairdressing in The Courtyard, will spend two days in the Big Apple during New York Fashion Week which runs from February 11 to 16.
“I was delighted, thrilled and honoured to accept Matthew Curtis’ invitation,” said Cameron.
“We've never met before, but he made contact through the Fellowship having seen my work.
"I have a simple strategy for my life.
"I just say yes and worry about the how later as there is always a learn to be had and passed on and keeps life exciting and my work fresh.
"The experience and education in itself will be invaluable, something I can bring back and share with the Inside Hairdressing team and my guests in Taunton.”
Cameron added: “I had a taste of the buzz around London Fashion Week, assisting Adam Reed before the first lockdown.
"The models, designers, dressers, stylists and make up all bring a frenetic pressure that brings a tingle which is addictive.
"I've never been to New York, but I intend to take a big bite of this apple as well and do my best to represent Combers inside Out hairdressers and myself with pride.”
Flying out early Friday morning for his first model call at 7.30am on Saturday, there will be little time for shopping and sightseeing.
With two shows on Saturday and one on Sunday morning, then jumping back on the plane to be behind the chair in Taunton alongside the Combers Inside Out hairdressers on Monday afternoon, he is sure to be adrenaline fuelled and ready for anything.
Cameron will be styling models under the direction of Matthew for fashion house ‘Hardwareldn’ by Jessica Horwell and Flying Solo, the largest independent US designer platform in the US.
The venue for the shows are at the New York Spring Studios.
