SOMERSET County Council have confirmed that over the weekend so far they have dealt with 255 storm related incidents.

They confirmed on social media that after adding up the figures, 235 of those incidents have involved tree or multiple tree felling and/or removal.

There has also been seven cases of collapsed walls and fences affecting roads as well as seven incidents of debris on the motorway.

"We had 10 gangs working through the night on a clear-up operation - and they'll be back out this morning," The council said.

"We remind people to continue to be cautious on the network – there is still a yellow warning today and tomorrow.

"Our Teams will continue to work through the weekend but roads are now mostly clear."

To confirm roads which still remained closed:

  • A396 near Wheddon Cross is still closed,
  • A3066 at Misterton is closed, and
  • Cleeve Hill near Watchet remains closed as a precaution for the safety of the public.

The council have also said today that there is still a number of trees down and there is debris on the roads.

"Crews are working flat-out through tonight and tomorrow – inevitably roads will still be closed overnight and there are still going to be hazards on the road."

Also for public transport, GWR and SWR are still urging passengers not to travel on trains as work is still underway to clear debris off the tracks.
