A FAMILY-OWNED business has expanded into a larger unit in Taunton.

Bradfords Building Supplies, which has 43 branches across the South West, has relocated to a bigger premises within the Crown Industrial Estate.

This new unit is five times the size of its previous location, and the move has been driven by a demand for DIY and home improvement supplies during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The building supplies firm, which has a team of more than 800 people, has been a familiar name amongst locals since 1770.

Property consultancy JLL brokered the deal.

Henry de Teissier, associate at JLL, which markets the estate on behalf of IPIF, said: "It's great to see Bradfords expanding off the back of their success in responding to the huge growth in the domestic and commercial construction market.

"The growth of the building supplies sector has been a key contributor to the significant demand for industrial space during the pandemic. Crown Industrial Estate provides much needed warehousing and logistics space in a supply starved local market.''

Bradfords are now letting the 19, 310 square foot unit, which has been recently refurbished.

Giles Bradford, head of sustainability at Bradfords, added: "We knew we needed to expand our operation to improve omnichannel fulfilment - the new unit on the Crown Industrial Estate gives us capacity for now and room for further expansion in the future."

There is also a new space planned for Crown Industrial Estate this year. The refurbishment of Block M will provide seven units from 3,606 - 19,941 sq ft., which will be available from spring 2022.

The new units will benefit from a new roof, fitted offices and allocated parking. Units M6 and M7 will both have a secure yard.
