TAUNTON race again on Thursday afternoon when the first of the seven events win the card is due to post at 2.08pm and with 66 runners declared another great afternoon of National Hunt action looks to be assured, writes Richard Walsh.
All of the top trainers including Paul Nicholls, Venetia Williams, Colin Tizzard, Alan King, Philip Hobbs and David Pipe have got runners while top jockeys Harry Cobden, Sam Twiston-Davies, Tom Scudamore, Tom O’Brien and Bryony Frost are all booked to ride.
There are two big races on the card the first of which is the Chetwood Wealth Management Handicap Steeple Chase at 3.38pm run over two miles and seven furlongs which has a prize pot of £11k.
With a field of 10 two horses worth checking out are the Philip Hobbs trained Larkbarrow Lad ridden by Tom O’Brien and Straight Swap the mount of Joshua Moore for Chris Gordon.
The other big race is Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust Mares' Handicap Chase at 4.38pm, over two miles five furlongs which although has only five runners but looks to be a very even contest.
I think my money will be going on either Grand Turina ridden by Charlie Deutsch for Venetia Williams or Jubilympics the only runner of the day for Emma Lavelle and ridden by Tom Bellamy.
Another horse worth an each way is Novus Aditus ridden by local jockey Kieren Buckley for Nigel Hawke in the first race, who will be looking to follow up his win at the last meeting.
Punters are reminded that if they want to take advantage of the up to 40% discount that is available they should book their tickets on line before 12 noon on the day prior to racing.
A courtesy coach service departs from Taunton Railway Station 90 minutes before the first race returning from the course half an hour after the start of the last.
To obtain FREE entry for the William Hill Free Raceday on Monday March 14 racegoers need to go online and download their tickets before March 6.
