THE Somerset Dyslexia Association (SDA) is looking for help to run its events and drop-in sessions.
The SDA is affiliated with the British Dyslexia Association. A spokesperson said: “We have supported children and adults with dyslexia in Somerset for nearly 40 years.
“We run a helpline and hold a drop-in on the first Saturday of every month in the meeting room of Taunton Library from 10am-noon.
“We also work to support teachers and tutors in Somerset and the region by holding annual conferences with nationally known speakers.
“We also organise conferences for parents and carers – this year the conference on Saturday June 11, 1-4pm, is free.
“We urgently need help to run these events and would welcome your support.
“You do not need any dyslexia-specific training or knowledge as there are many different ways to help us.
“We aim to achieve a dyslexia-friendly society, enabling people with dyslexia of all ages to achieve their potential. You would be very welcome to join us in achieving these aims.”
Dyslexia affects about 10 per cent of the population. People with dyslexia usually experience difficulty in reading and spelling and sometimes with memory and organisation, but they can also be very imaginative, curious, and ‘think outside the box’.
Anyone who would like to chat about how you could help, then please either come to a drop-in or ring Janet on 01749 675139.
