TWO local choirs are set to perform in a charity concert organised by Glastonbury and Street Lions Club to raise funds for local causes.
The Glastonbury Male Voice Choir and the Avalonian Free State Choir will take to the stage at Millfield School's Johnson Hall in Street on Friday, April 1.
The 40-strong Glastonbury Male Voice Choir, which will celebrate its centenary next year, performed for a crowd of 7,000 people at the Glastonbury Extravaganza in September.
The Avalonian Free State Choir, which turns 30 this year, is an a cappella choir specialising in world music, and it performs songs that represent folk traditions from all over the world.
The concert will be compered by Simon Parkin from BBC Radio Somerset.
David Atkins, president of Glastonbury and Street Lions Club, said: “We’re delighted to be offering this chance for people to see two highly respected local choirs in concert, and to help us raise funds for very worthy charities, including Children’s Hospice South West.
“We hope it will be a sell-out event.”
Glastonbury and Street Lions Club, a registered charity established over 40 years ago, consists of men and women aiming to help people less fortunate than themselves.
Tickets for the concert, which will be sponsored by Forsey and Son funeral directors, cost £10.
They can be bought from Glastonbury Tourist Information Centre or online from the Eventbrite website.
