TWO friends have left Somerset for a 2,400-mile round trip to deliver aid for Ukrainian children and help refugees.

Conrad Fielding and Mark Farrell left Hemyock on Thursday, March 17 in two vans crammed with aid for babies rescued from the war in Ukraine.

They are driving to the Poland-Ukraine border, near the town of Lviv, with sterilised baby bottles, food, and walkie-talkies collected by Taunton For Ukraine.

Mr Fielding said: “Like most of the people we have been very affected by what we have seen on TV. It’s clearly an injustice for the Ukrainian people.

“I am lucky enough to be self-employed and I have a van, and we just decided to get some help to the border.”

Mr Fielding, who runs the Wellington-based catering business Conrad’s Kitchen, and Mr Farrell, who runs a small transport business, have previously helped refugees camping in the Calais Jungle.

Mr Fielding also said they will also try to help refugees and “transport them to their new homes”.

The two friends will be covering their own food, accommodation, and insurance costs but would really appreciate any help to cover the diesel bill, they said.

Any money over and above the fuel costs will be spent directly on medical or other most urgent supplies and they will be guided by the charities on the ground.

Donations towards fuel costs can be made at the following bank details, CJ Fielding 20-25-24 30171093.
