LAST Friday (March 18), Somerset County Cricket Club held a fundraising event for the Red Cross Ukraine Appeal.
Over 100 guests joined forces in a Ukraine themed evening at the Cooper Associates County Ground to raise as much funds as possible to send to those who need it most in Ukraine.
In total, the event raised a staggering £8908, from which a large bulk of £5225 came through the silent auction and quiz donations.
The club has confirmed that further donations have been submitted in the form of cheques so the figure is likely to rise.
All the money will be transferred to Red Cross Ukraine Crisis appeal.
On the night, which was hosted by Somerset legend Peter Trego, guests enjoyed Ukrainian inspired food, were entertained by a magician, DJ and saxaphone player and all participated in a quiz.
Organiser of the event, Agne Seikyte, who is also the conference & events sales executive at the cricket club spoke about the importance fundraising for this cause.
She said: "I cannot thank everyone enough for coming tonight, it means so much to me.
"I grew up in Lithuania, which was then part of the USSR and I can still remember what it was like, we were under the Russian wing.
"The current situation brings back so many memories for me and it breaks my heart to see what is currently happening."
Taunton local and Ukrainian born Irena also spoke to the audience about the current situation.
"It is incredible to see everyone here tonight supporting us and supporting Ukraine," she said.
"It is a terrible feeling waking up each day checking to see if your family and friends back home are still alive, thank you for helping us fundraise this evening."
Head coach Jason Kerr and captain Tom Abell were in attendance for the fundraising event as were a number of members and representatives from sponsors.
