A SOMERSET craft brewery is serving up an Easter special - a hot cross bun inspired beer.
The Wild Beer Co, a Shepton Mallet farmhouse brewery that prides itself on brewing beer specifically for how it will taste with food, has announced the launch of One A Penny beer today (Monday, March 21).
With raisins, mixed citrus peel, cinnamon, all spice, vanilla, and nutmeg, the latest addition to The Wild Beer Co’s experimental range of craft beers has all the flavours of the nation’s much-loved Easter treat in liquid form.
One A Penny is vegan and boasts a smooth, full, hazy body, like a New England IPA, but without the hops.
There is sweetness from vanilla, a distinct fruitiness from raisins and citrus peel, and the slightest hint of complementary spice.
It pairs beautifully with – you guessed it – a hot cross bun.
So, since beer is often used in baked foods, the brewery has gone one step further and partnered with Somerset artisan bakery Lievito to create delicious hot cross buns made with The Wild Beer Co beer, which are available as part of a special Easter Bundle from www.wildbeerco.com - that also includes the new beer, beer-flavoured chocolates as well as a selection of The Wild Beer Co’s other indulgent beers.
The 440ml cans are also available individually for £2.75 from local independent bottle shops.
Andrew Cooper, co -founder of The Wild Beer Co, said: "At The Wild Beer Co we love to get creative with our flavour combinations and produce beers that pair harmoniously with and are inspired by food.
"Experimentation is a major part of what we do and after 10 years of brewing we love to keep things fresh, so when we had the idea to create a brew for Easter we couldn’t resist making a beer version of the much-loved hot cross bun.
"Tasting over 15 different kinds of hot cross buns - hey, someone’s gotta do it - to understand the bready, sweet flavour, we’ve landed with One A Penny, a pale, smooth, full-bodied beer with hints of sweetness blended with complex spices that pairs perfectly with the Easter treat.”
