A TALENTED singer-songwriter from Glastonbury is set to release her powerful new single 'Breakfast for Dinner Tonight' at the end of this month.
The new song by Rosie Smith, a 22-year-old former Millfield School student, will be available to stream and download from Wednesday, March 30.
Rosie completed her first live tour with Dorset-based pop band Lawson at the end of last year and recently performed her latest single on GB News.
Now, Rosie is preparing to bring out her debut album having recorded it at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London - and she is already compiling material for her second full-length release.
Her album will draw on metaphors from nature to describe love, friendship, upheaval, and grief as a "self-help guide" for young people.
These themes are clear in 'Breakfast for Dinner Tonight', where Rosie expresses a desire to "feel some love and emotion, like a tidal wave of grief and commotion".
In the chorus, she sings: "I need a sign to know I'm alive, well maybe something simple like breakfast for dinner tonight".
'Breakfast for Dinner Tonight' follows the release of her debut single 'Talking With Your Hands', a song influenced by the rise in cases of domestic abuse reported in lockdown.
Speaking about her music, Rosie said: “I play the guitar, piano, drums and a little bass and trumpet.
“I love finding obscure ways to play chords and melodic patterns and I am fascinated by harmonies.
“I would describe my music style as storytelling in a commercial way.
“I use the folk genre narratives and place them into an up-tempo pop genre, so I guess it’s folky pop with a twist.
“In part because of my own life experiences, my music is intended to be a kind of self-help guide for other young adults struggling with love, friendship, upheaval and grief.”
Southampton-born Rosie moved to Glastonbury with her family at the age of 10 when she was offered a sports scholarship at Millfield School.
After discovering her passion for drama and performance, she started classical voice training and took part in the school's musicals and ensembles.
She brought her first guitar at the age of 13 and, three years later, she took on her first acting job which saw her perform alongside David Tennant and Olivia Colman in the third series of Broadchurch.
After leaving Millfield, she graduated with a first-class honours degree from Rose Bruford College in London, where she studied to become an actor and musician.
Her musical talent was brought to the attention of Lastman Music, a management and promotion company, after she wrote 'Remember Me' for Millfield's annual Remembrance Day service at Wells Cathedral.
She is now signed to Lastman's X&Y record label.
