A REVEREND is planning to create a community hub for Ukrainian families relocating to Wellington.
Revd Sam Griffiths, from Wellington Baptist Church, said he would like to make a church facility available to refugees once a week.
He also added that "if this is useful, then we'd be delighted to provide this in our church hall".
He said he would like to create a place for “Ukrainian families to go, meet up, sit and get refreshments with free internet access”.
The Revd added: “I don’t think, to the best of my knowledge, that anyone is doing anything like this in the Wellington community.
“We are in the town centre and obviously people [Ukrainians] are facing the most extraordinary emotional, psychological, cultural change and this is the least we can do – provide a central, warm place with internet.
“I don’t know yet how many people will welcome Ukrainian families but I think it will be a developing situation.”
He also added he would like to provide Ukrainian refugees with “a facility to chat, help with practical matters and just space to sit and recover”.
At the moment, the Revd said, the hub might be available on Mondays between 10am and 1pm.
