THE creators of Downtown Abbey are set to host a ball in Taunton this May.

A Ruby Ball will be held at the Somerset County Cricket Club in aid of children's charity Brainwave.

Lord and Lady Fellowes, who are patrons of the charity, are hosting the ball to celebrate Brainwave's 40th birthday.

All proceeds from the event will go towards helping children with disabilities achieve greater independence with the help of Brainwave's specialist therapists.

Lady Fellowes said it is an 'absolute honour' to support the charity.

"We’re looking forward to celebrating this fantastic 40 year milestone at the Ruby Ball," she said.

"We’ve seen first hand the good work that Brainwave does and we’re delighted to help them raise awareness and funds to continue their fantastic support to families across the UK.”

Since 1982, Brainwave, who have their headquarters in Bridgwater, Somerset, has delivered over 13,000 assessments to children with have a range of conditions including autism, cerebral palsy, sensory processing and downs syndrome nationwide.

They have delivered over 95,000 hours of therapy and loaned out 26,000 pieces of equipment for children to use whilst carrying out their individualised programme at home including therapy wedges, peanut balls and communication development aids.

Keith Sinclair, CEO of Brainwave added: “We’d like to thank Lord and Lady Fellowes for their continued support and are all very much looking forward to the Ruby Ball.

"There will be live music, delicious food and amazing auction prizes.

"It will be a wonderful evening celebrating the achievements of children and their families over four decades and will enable us to raise vital funds to help even more families in the coming months and years.

"With the help of our kind supporters we’re hoping to raise £40,000 in 2022 to fund a new full time therapist, who will help more children who need our support.”

The event has been sponsored by Tilney and Enable Law.
