FOUR drivers from Taunton and West Somerset were sentenced at Bath Magistrates’ Court last week for breaking the speed limit on the county’s roads.
All four drivers were given fines ranging from £100 to £660, and they all had penalty points added to their driving licences.
They all sentenced by magistrates in Bath on Thursday, March 17 after pleading guilty under the single justice procedure.
Under the single justice procedure, people who are charged with minor criminal offences can have their case decided by a magistrate without going to court.
Harriet Gibbard
A woman from Tolland has been slapped with a £660 fine after driving at 55mph in a 30mph zone on the B3227 in Waterrow.
Harriet Gibbard, of Tolland Road, committed the offence on June 18, 2021.
Gibbard, 32, was fined £660 and ordered to pay £90 in court costs and a £66 surcharge to fund victim services.
Gibbard has until April 28 to pay her £816 court bill.
She was also handed six penalty points.
Richard Joseph Owen Sheridan
On June 8, a man from Curry Mallet was caught driving at 54mph in Pound Road, Broadway – a road with a 30mph speed limit.
Richard Joseph Owen Sheridan, of Marshway, was fined £300 and must pay £90 in costs and a £34 surcharge, giving him a total balance of £424.
His driving record was endorsed with six penalty points.
John Francis Barrington-Brookes-Ford
A driver from Minehead has been fined after being caught breaking a 30mph speed limit on the B3227 in Hillcommon.
John Francis Barrington-Brookes-Ford, of Whitecross Lane, was caught exceeding the speed limit by six mph on June 10.
The 74-year-old was fined £100.
He must also pay £90 in costs and a £34 surcharge, giving him a total court bill of £224.
He received three penalty points.
Barrington-Brookes-Ford also pleaded guilty to driving “a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence”, for which he received no separate penalty.
Jeremy Marc Wickins
A man clocked driving at 77mph on the A38 in Thurloxton – a road with a 50mph speed limit – has been fined and handed six penalty points.
Jeremy Marc Wilkins, who lives in Thurloxton, received a £120 fine.
He was also ordered to pay £90 in costs and a £34 surcharge.
Wickins has until April 28 to pay his £244 court bill.
