A MERKUR Slots spokesperson now says the opening of the venue in a shop in Taunton town centre has been put back a week.

The adult gaming centre in North Street will now be opening on Monday, April 11.

It had been due to welcome the first customers next Monday (April 4) but there have been "a few delays".

A HIGH street 'entertainment venue' is opening in Taunton town centre next week.

Merkur Slots adult gaming centre goes live in a Grade II listed building in North Street on Monday next week (April 4).

The business will offer people the chance to play on gambling machines, including bingo machines and tablets, 24 hours a day.

Players will be able to bet low stakes of between 10p and £2.

The gaming centre is on the ground floor, with storage on the two upper storeys of the premises.

The building, sandwiched between Greggs and a charity shop, had been empty since September 2019 and was previously occupied by ECCO Shoes.

The business has created several new jobs and will provide complementary refreshments, tea and coffee for customers.

The company says customers will be able to "spend their spare change, have a game of bingo and enjoy their favourite past time".

People visiting the new venue are being urged to BeGambleAware.

Merkur Slots is part of the German family-owned Gauselmann Group, which trades in more than 40 European countries.

In the UK, it currently operates more than over 180 high street adult gaming centres as well as three bingo clubs.
