THE A303 Ilminster Bypass was closed this morning following a "multi-vehicle collision" that occurred at around 6:20am.
The road remained closed in both directions until around 9:25am due to debris and fuel spilled on the carriageway.
Avon and Somerset Police say no life-changing or life-threatening injuries have been reported.
At 9:24am, National Highways South West tweeted: “All lanes are now open in both directions on the A303 Somerset between the A358 Illminster and the A356 Stoke-sub-Hamdon.
“Please allow time for delays to clear.
“Have a safe onward journey.”
While the road was closed, a police spokesperson said: “A road closure is in place on the A303 Illminster Bypass in both directions between the Southfields Roundabout and South Petherton this morning (Wednesday 30 March), following a collision involving five vehicles which happened at approximately 6.20am.
“Emergency services are in attendance.
“Significant delays are expected and motorists are advised to avoid the route.”

When the road closure was first reported, National Highways South West confirmed: “The A303 is closed in both directions between A358 Illminster and the A356 near Stoke-sub-Hamdon following a multi-vehicle collision.
“Delays beginning to build on approach.”
