MANY constituents have been in touch regarding the desperate situation in Ukraine and in particular to urge Government to do all possible to support our Ukrainian friends; I constantly feedback your views in Westminster. For the past eight years our armed forces have been training their Ukrainian counterparts and recently the UK has been helping pay salaries and provide high quality equipment for Ukrainian soldiers, pilots, and police.
In addition, in response to calls for further aid the Government is providing another 6,000 missiles which more than doubles the defensive lethal aid provided to date.
Back in the constituency, many of you will know that it has been a long-held ambition of mine, together with many others in the local community, to secure a cycleway between Wellington and Taunton adjacent to the extremely busy A38.
Such a cycle way would also provide an important link to the proposed Wellington Rail station, plans for which, I am delighted to say, have taken another step forward recently following a further £5m of Government funding to develop detailed designs and a full business case.
This puts us on track for a potential opening in 2025. I pledged to work to bring a rail station to Wellington when I was first elected to Parliament in 2015; it is so welcome to reflect that this is fast becoming a reality.
So, the time is right to push for the cycleway between Taunton and Wellington. I am running a petition to present to Government to demonstrate the real need and support for it. If you feel as passionately about the scheme as I do and can see what great benefits it would bring, whether you are a cyclist already, plan to become one or simply want to put your shoulder to the wheel in support I would be grateful if you would please add your name to the petition and share it around.
Full details are on my website. Let’s set the wheels in motion!
