The Osip restaurant in Somerset has been crowned the number one best restaurant in the UK in the SquareMeal top 100 list.
Located in Bruton, it was praised for its "deft cooking" and how it cultivates meals from the farm to the table.
It is run by ex-head chef of the London estbalishment Portland and Clipstone, Merlin Labron-Johnson.
The restaurant grows much of its own produce and works closely with Somerset suppliers to source the rest for a predominantly vegetarian menu.
Dishes include roasted vegetable tea with burnt garlic oil, young leeks with almond praline and ricotta, roast chicken with hen of the woods mushroom, bearnaise, chicken sausage and cider mustard.
SquareMeal is the UK’s leading independent restaurant guide and deliberately excludes London restaurants to allow venues from around the UK to be recognised.
They bring the list together using thousands of reader votes and their own expert critics, featuring everything from fine dining experiences through to farm-to-table restaurants and gastropubs.
Describing the Osip restaurant, SquareMeal wrote: "Osip is a genuine farm-to-table treasure, where produce goes from the kitchen garden to your plate in a matter of hours. The pared-back dining room is a perfect setting for Merlin Labron-Johnson’s deft cooking."
What other Somerset restaurants were on the list?
Aside from Osip, Somerset was represented by a few other restaurants on the list, which were:
- Upstairs at Landrace, Bath (15th place)
- 28 Market Place, Somerton (31st place)
- Olive Tree, Bath (32nd place)
