GLASTONBURY is holding a Reclaim St George! event on Saturday (April 23).

The free St George's Day event in Glastonbury Town Hall is hosted by local writer John Constable.

He will be performing work on George and the Dragon from his book The Southwark Mysteries.

Pok the Bard of Ynys Witrin will sing his own Dragons song, and Jenny Bliss-Bennett will perform songs and music for St George.

Dr Sam Riches, author of two books on St George, will speak about his importance as an inclusive, international saint.

Local author Paul Weston will unpack Glastonbury’s own local legend.

The performance will end with the first public reading of John Constable's The Glastonbury St George Mummers Play, which is to be performed in the Abbey on June 3 for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The Mayor of Glastonbury, Jon Cousins, said: "Continuing our exploration of the sovereignty of this sceptred isle during The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Glastonbury celebrates the legendary connection between England’s patron saint and 'the Holyest Erthe' during an evening of theatre, music, poetry, and inspirational talks at Glastonbury Town Hall."

Saturday's event starts at 8pm. Doors open at 7.45pm and people are advised to arrive promptly to be sure of admission to the free community event funded by Glastonbury Town Council
