A MASS is being held to celebrate the life of a former Taunton headmistress.
Former students at the all-girls' school, family and friends are invited to the occasion in memory of Sister Dominic Savio, who taught at the former St Joseph's Convent, in South Road.
Sister Dominic, who was the last head at St Joseph's before it closed in 1976, died in April last year during lockdown.
She was more recently known as Sister Bella and died at St Joseph's Home, Killorglin, Ireland, following several years' of ill health.
Her funeral was held at St Aidan's Cathedral in her home town of Enniscorthy.
The mass of "celebration, prayer and reflection for her marvellous and fruitful life" will take place in St George's Catholic Church on Friday, May 6, from noon.
Light refreshments will be provided in the Catholic Centre afterwards.
Several of the Sisters of St Joseph Annecy from Llantarnum Abbey are expected to attend the celebration.
Mary Elliott (née Taylor) said: "This will give us a chance to show our appreciation and gratitude for all the hard work, skills and inspiration the sisters have shared with the parishes of St George's, St Teresa’s, St John Fisher, Wellington, and as far afield as Bridgwater, in their pastoral and teaching work over many years."
