A LOCAL theatre company is set to bring an evening of short performances "from some of the most exciting global majority artists in the region" to Taunton.
The Night of Early-Stage Performance will be held by Beyond Face, which aims to help the south west become a recognised region for amplifying and celebrating global majority people in arts and culture.
The event will be held on Friday, May 6 at The Brewhouse Theatre and will feature performances including spoken word, one-person work, and comedy.
It will also include a performance of Beyond Face’s pop-up production All One Way.
Previewing the event, artistic director Alix Harris said: “At the end of 2021, Beyond Face underwent a rebrand to launch as a south west based theatre company.
“These early-stage work events are just the beginning of how we aim to amplify our new mission as a company to be at the forefront of creating opportunities for artists of the global majority.
“We are excited to be meeting new artists this year and hope that these events will be an opportunity to begin new relationships and for Beyond Face to be profiled across different areas in the region.”
Artist development producer Corinne Walker added: “It’s been a challenging two years for all of us and in the theatre and performance industry it has been no different for black and global majority artists.
“So, we wanted to do what we could to provide a platform for these artists in the region and get their work in front of live audiences again.
“The south west is absolutely bursting with talent and we are thrilled to be able to showcase that with these events.”
Tickets start at £5 and are offered on a 'pay what you decide' basis up to £15.
They can be purchased online at The Taunton Brewhouse website or in-person at the box office.
