ARMED police shut down a petrol station after it was held up by a robber wielding an imitation shotgun.
A juvenile was arrested following the incident in Longforth Road, Wellington, on Saturday afternoon (May 28).
By the time officers arrived on the scene, a male had made off with a quantity of cash.
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said no weapon was discharged and nobody was physically injured.
Following the robbery, a cordon was put in place and officers scoured the area before arresting a juvenile.
A weapon was later found by officers.
The spokesperson said: "Police responded to a 999 call at approximately 2pm on Saturday 28 May after an imitation firearm was used in a robbery at a petrol station in Wellington.
"We received reports that a male had entered the store and was thought to be in possession of a firearm.
"No weapon was discharged during the incident and nobody was physically injured.
"However, the offender made off with a quantity of cash and was said to have fled the area on foot in the direction of Longforth Road and Church Fields.
"Armed officers were quickly dispatched to the scene.
"A cordon was put in place and an area tour was conducted by officers, which led to a juvenile being arrested.
"He has since been released on conditional bail, and is not allowed to enter Wellington unless accompanied by an adult."
The force spokesperson added: "A weapon matching the description of the one used in the robbery was recovered by officers during searches later on Saturday afternoon.
"Following checks it was found to be an imitation firearm.
"We’d like to reassure people there is not believed to be any ongoing risk to the public.
"Neighbourhood officers will also be carrying out additional high-visibility patrols."
