THE BBC has announced its coverage plans for Glastonbury Festival 2022 to give viewers dozens of hours of coverage from Worthy Farm.

The five-day festival will return on Wednesday, June 22 after it was cancelled due to Covid in 2020 and 2021.

Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage headliners will be Billie Eilish (Friday), Sir Paul McCartney (Saturday), and Kendrick Lamar (Sunday).

The main stage will also feature performances from Lorde, Sam Fender, Wolf Alice, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Haim, and AJ Tracey.

The festival confirmed its full set times earlier this week across all of its stages.

Now, BBC Music has confirmed its plans to offer its most extensive festival coverage on TV, radio, and online.

Audiences will be able to personalise their Glastonbury experiences through the BBC, from Pyramid headliners to the broadcasters' Introducing Stage.

This year's festival will also be the first time the BBC has broadcast a music event in ultra high definition (UHD).

Sets from the Pyramid Stage will be shown in UHD on BBC iPlayer on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Some other major performances and a special Pyramid Stage highlights programme will be available on-demand in UHD after the festival ends.

The broadcaster's team of presenters includes BBC Radio 1's Clara Amfo, Danny Howard, Jack Saunders, Sian Eleri, and Vick Hope.

AFRODEUTSCHE, Cerys Matthews, Dermot O’Leary, DJ Target, Huw Stephens, Jaguar, James Ballardie, Jamz Supernova, Jo Whiley, Lauren Laverne, Matt Everitt, Steve Lamacq, Tom Ravenscroft, and Zoe Ball will also be broadcasting live from Worthy Farm.

BBC director of music Lorna Clarke said: “I’m very proud of the BBC’s long history of broadcasting from Glastonbury, the highlight of our Summer of Live Music.

“Our coverage this year will be our most extensive to date, with over 35 hours of programming across BBC One, Two, Three, and Four, and over 40 hours on BBC iPlayer - in addition to digital live streams from the five biggest festival stages.

“We’ll also have wall-to-wall coverage on the BBC’s pop radio networks and BBC Sounds, with over 60 hours of broadcasts from the festival itself.

“Our expert team of presenters will guide audiences around Worthy Farm, whilst BBC iPlayer – with its dedicated Glastonbury channel – and BBC Sounds will allow people to watch and listen on-demand, throughout the festival weekend and beyond.”

Festival co-organiser Emily Eavis added: “It’s a joy to have the BBC and its brilliant team back and broadcasting live from Glastonbury for the first time since 2019, continuing a special partnership that’s been evolving since 1997.

“I’m looking forward to Worthy Farm being filled with thousands of people once again and for millions more around the country being able to enjoy performances from our stellar line-up, courtesy of the BBC, wherever they are.”

Before the festival begins, BBC Two will broadcast Glastonbury: 50 Years & Counting, featuring Michael and Emily Eavis and a range of past performers such as Chris Martin, Dua Lipa, Florence Welch, and Noel Gallagher.

There will also be a programme about the rise of rapper Stormzy and his journey to headlining on the Pyramid Stage in 2019.

BBC iPlayer's dedicated Glastonbury channel will launch on Thursday, June 23, and will show live performances, previews, and more.
