A FORMER Taunton schoolgirl has won a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games.
But for once Maddie Hinch had little to do as England outclassed Australia in the women's hockey final.
Goalkeeper Maddie, who attended King's College between 2002 and 2007, had again played a starring role in the side's march to the final.
But after collecting her medal, she said she was happy to be a spectator for most of the match as England won more convincingly than the 2-1 scoreline suggests.
She said: "I knew it could be a game of moments.
"I had a couple of things to do and they can be harder, those games.
"I’m happy to stand there and do absolutely nothing as long as we win."
Maddie also starred for Team GB when they won gold at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and bronze in Tokyo last year.
