PRIMARY school pupils have received a letter sent on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II last Monday (September 5) after they celebrated her Platinum Jubilee.

Year 2 pupils at Tatworth Primary School sent letters of good wishes to mark her 70 years on the throne and last Monday pupils received a letter from Buckingham Palace thanking them for their messages.

Headteacher Ms Hart said receiving the letter “was a very proud moment” which was unfortunately “tinged with sadness” once the Queen passed away (on Thursday, September 8).

Tatworth School shared the letter with its pupils on Friday, September 9, during its assembly.

The letter the school received read: “The Queen wishes me to write and thank you for the letters and colourful pictures which you sent to her Majesty on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee.

“The Queen was glad to hear from you and, although unable to reply to you personally, Her Majesty greatly appreciated the nice things you said.

“I am to thank you again for your messages of good wishes to the Queen in this, her Platinum Jubilee year.”

Class teacher Mrs Stocker said: “The children in Year 1 were studying London Landmarks in Geography, including Buckingham Palace, so they decided it would be lovely to write to the Queen personally to send their best wishes for her Platinum Jubilee.”

Ms Hart said: “It was a very proud moment to receive a letter from the Queen and her Ladies in Waiting last week, and although it was tinged with sadness once we heard the sad news that the Queen had passed away, the letter was central to our celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s II’s life during our assembly on Friday.

“The letter helped the children to associate what they do in school with the important work of the royal family and were pleased to see that their written work was read and answered.”
