AUDIENCE members will receive five free alcoholic drinks at an upcoming comedy quiz at The Brewhouse Theatre in Taunton this week.
The Thinking Drinkers Pub Quiz will visit the county town fresh from selling out at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last month.
The quiz is described as “is an interactive imbibing experience that gives each and every audience member five free discerning alcoholic drinks which, along with a whole load of laughter and learning, makes it the greatest value-for-money show in town”.
The quiz will be hosted by award-winning alcohol experts, comedians and drinks historians Tom Sandham and Ben McFarland, whose latest book was named Drinks Book of the Year 2021 by The Sunday Times.
Theatre-goers will go head-to-head as they are led on a hilarious exploration of alcohol's influence on every aspect of humanity, from geography and language to history, religion, music, and film.
Ben McFarland said: “The pub quiz is an iconic intellectual, elbow-bending institution but we’ve taken it to a higher level.
“Even if you don’t like pub quizzes, and even if you’re a bit thick, you’ll have a great time with some dazzling drinks and may even win some prizes.”
Tom Sandham added: “Some people reckon that drink can decrease the number of brain cells but our pub quiz is sure to perk up your prefrontal cortex and increase them… probably.
“While everyone enjoys a quality collection of complimentary drinks, we’ll be taking them on an entertaining, intoxicating journey through history – while putting them through an extremely thorough quizzical.”
This year’s drinks include a phenomenally fruity British gin from Brockmans, a legendary lager from German brewers Krombacher, and a sensational Venezuelan sipping rum called Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva.
There is also a whisky from Johnnie Walker, a beautifully balanced Kentucky straight bourbon from Elijah Craig in the USA, and luxury mixer from The London Essence Co.
The quiz will take place at The Brewhouse Theatre on Friday, September 23 at 8pm.
