Activate Fitness, Taunton's independent 24/7 gym

Activate Fitness, located at 30a Bridge Street, now remains open 24/7.

Managing director Tom Auton decided on the move in response to demand from a number of members unable to train during the day due to working patterns.

He said: "There was a high demand to change to 24/7 as it gives people the flexibility to come and go when they please.

"It's what some people need these days as a lot of my members work shifts."

The premises have been redecorated and Tom has invested heavily in plenty of new equipment.

The spacious gym is on the top two floors above the building housing the former Coal Orchard pub.

The pub's closure earlier this month does not affect Activate as Tom has a long lease that has been carried over to the new owner.

He said: "We're proudly independent and our main ethos is that we are really inclusive, relaxed and everyone here is supportive and non-intimidating.

"We're totally different from the typical gym culture and offer something a bit special.

"We make sure everyone is on the right track and knows what to do as we always offer to teach them how to exercise and we put together a personal workout plan."

Activate was the first gym Tom, who is locally born and bred, ever joined 10 years ago when he was still at college.

He subsequently worked there and when the opportunity arose in 2016 he took it over.

The gym caters for all levels and abilities in a relaxed atmosphere.

Activate Fitness is situated at 30a Bridge Street - accessed by an entrance down the side of the former Coal Orchard pub.
