PEOPLE in Devon and Somerset can now see the latest statistics and details of fire and rescue incidents in their area thanks to a new website feature being tested by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, writes Molly Clapham.

The online tool, called 'in your area', aims to familiarise people with their local fire service and find out what has been happening near them.

Residents can enter a postcode to see the number of incidents in their area broken down into fires, rescues, false alarms and other incidents.

The search will also show details of the most recent callouts for the area including type, date, time and which fire stations attended, together with a map outlining the postcode boundary.

As well as information about the nearest fire station for the postcode search, users can see details about key campaigns, community safety and job vacancies within the fire service.

This includes information on how to become an on-call firefighter and the service’s community risk management plan 2022-27.

The new tool, which has just been launched as a test version and is still under development, also opens up the potential to display more targeted local information to residents in the region, according to the fire service.

A survey has been launched to gather feedback from the general public, who can identify additional improvements that may need to be made in order to make the tool more useful and easier to use.

After a month of gathering feedback, the service will review responses and make any required amendments to the feature.
