MINEHEAD'S Men’s and Ladies’ Hockey teams got together on December 29 for their annual memorial game to celebrate the lives of players and friends lost too soon in recent years.
An almost record number of players both past and present, as well as guests from neighbouring clubs and even Christmas visitors braved the cold weather and downpours to enjoy a series of keenly-contested games all played in a great spirit.
Reminiscences and post-match celebrations continued long into the evening at the Britannia Inn.
As 2023 begins, Minehead’s First XI will be looking forward to a better second half of the season; currently propping up the West Division Central League in 11th place with just two wins from nine games, they host 10th-placed Bridgwater on Saturday 7th January at home in what will be the first of several crucial encounters.
Skipper Will Daughtrey is looking forward to the challenge, and with several players returning to strengthen the ranks is confident of finding enough points to remain safe in the League.
The Second XI are currently sitting in 4th place in their League and travel to 3rd placed Shepton Mallett for what will also prove to be an important clash so early in the New year.
Midweek training continues at the West Somerset Sports Centre on Wednesday evenings 1930 to 2030; players of all standards are always welcome to attend.
