A SOMERSET artist and ambassador accepted 'The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service' won by a charity he is part of.
Outside In was recognised for its work in providing a platform for artists facing barriers to the art world due to health, disability, social circumstance, or isolation.
Mark Noble, a creative artist from Street and ambassador for the charity, said it was ‘amazing’ for the group to win the award, which is also the highest recognition a voluntary group can receive in the UK, equivalent to an MBE.
Mr Noble, who has dyslexia, is a painter and believes art can be a language and can provide people with tools to improve their own mental health or cope with their anxiety.
He said: “I'm really proud of the work the charity does, and I'm honoured to be a part of it. It was amazing to win the award.
“I am an ambassador for Outside In, a group of 60 artists from all walks of life showcasing their work on a national level.
“With Outside In we can get a bigger audience and show what people can do with the arts.
“The charity encourages people and gives them more opportunities and it’s beneficial for mental health and wellbeing. It’s inclusive.”
The award was presented to founder and director Marc Steene at an awards ceremony at Pallant House Gallery in November by the Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex, Lady Emma Barnard.
In addition, two representatives will also attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May 2023, along with other recipients of this year’s award.
Former Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex, Dame Susan Pyper, said: “I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to Outside In, one of the outstanding and diverse groups in the county that have been honoured with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
“The work that they do to help others is remarkable, and the dedication of their volunteers and staff is truly humbling. They make a real difference in the lives of others.
"The Queen’s Award is a tremendous accolade for these five fabulous groups, and I very much hope that their achievements will encourage other volunteer groups to consider putting themselves forward for nomination for this prestigious award.”
