PLANS have been unveiled for a new pavilion and clubhouse in a village near Taunton to replace a community sports pavilion deemed unfit for modern day purposes.
A planning application for the scheme hat Pitminster and Angersleigh Playing Fields, at Sellicks Green, Blagdon Hill, has been submitted to Somerset West and Taunton Council.
Pitminster and Angersleigh Playing Field Association says the submission is "a key part of the village allowing the continued use of the site for the cricket team, football teams and tennis players.
Under the proposals new building would feature home and away changing rooms, male and female toilets, a single accessible toilet and an open plan communal space for "the social element of the sports".
The project includes plans for a veranda area, providing a covered space for watching the sports ground, while there would also be "the opportunity for community events".
The playing fields contain football and cricket pitches and a tennis court, as well as a children's play area.
A statement with the application says: "This application proposes a new build sports pavilion, while retaining the old building for storage and ancillary purposes.
"Basic economics indicates that it is not efficient to redevelop or convert the existing building."
It adds that the modern construction of the single-storey building would assist with keeping down energy costs and ensure the facilities are available to users.
