A TAUNTON-BASED weightlifter won a bronze medal in the under 59kg category at the Wild Boar competition in Lydney, Gloucestershire last weekend.
Gabby Sully-Dunbar, 22, also secured a personal best in the competition.
She is now ranked at number 1 in the under-23 category in Great Britain and number 4 in the senior women category.
The former Monkton Heathfield School student, who went on to study psychology at the University of Gloucestershire, trains at Excelsior Athletic Development Club in Willand, Devon.
Coach James Marshall said: “Gabby was very composed on the platform and did well to get a personal best.
“The rankings are nice, but seeing our lifters’ smiles at the end is better.”
At the competition, each lifter has three attempts on snatch and then three attempts on clean and jerk in their respective weight categories.
The combined results give a total (everything is in kg, and an x indicates failed attempt).
Excelsior Athletic Development Club says weightlifting is one of the few sports where people of different sizes and shapes can participate and compete on equal terms.
The various weight categories and age groups mean that boys and girls, women and men can all challenge themselves and improve.
