12 GAMES. 12 WINS. Minehead U15 Girls win their league campaign unbeaten, ending this season off in style with a 9-3 win over Wembdon in the final game.
Going into the game, Minehead felt confident but cautious of not expecting the point needed to be easy to come by.
The first 20 minutes showed exactly why Minehead were right to be cautious.
Minehead did dominate being led by the midfield trio of Lilly, Erin and Izabella but rarely got out of first gear.
Minehead growing restless of not breaking through early were put at ease thanks to the goal scoring machine that is Kayleigh.
The striker bagged her 25th of season thanks to a trademark curved finish from the edge of the area.
Bonita bagged a goal similar to Kayleigh’s in the 25th minute and it was 2-0 Minehead.
Within the 15 remaining minutes of the half Minehead doubled their lead thanks to an Izabella brace.
Into the second half, and Minehead now just 40 minutes away from being crowded Champions.
As the 2nd half started Wembdon got an unlikely early goal. This galvanised the hosts and In typical fashion Minehead responded emphatically.
From the restart a quick attack found Jess who showed her attacking qualities as she dribbled past the goalkeeper brilliantly to get the home sides 5th.
Then moments later Lilly who was as again dominating the midfield broke through the defensive line and scored with a fine looping shot from 25 yards to make it 6-1.
Wembdon then halted the Minehead siege momentarily and got their 2nd after a mix up at the back.
At 6-2 the scoring was far from done. As the game went into the final 15 minutes the lull was broken and the floodgates opened.
Emeral who is making a habit of terrorising opponents with her pace could have had a number of goals to her name but the goal was proving allusive.
This until a rehearsed corner routine found the striker who met the ball mid-flight with a sweet strike from 12 yards out to covert home her most difficult chance of the game.
Moments later the versatile Kianna now playing in an advanced wing-back role calmly dribbled past the goalkeeper to score into the empty net bagging her 4th for the season.
Then another gift for the away side as a lapse in concentration left Maddison helpless as the ball looped over her as the scoreline now read 8-3.
This high scoring 11 goal thriller had one more flashpoint as Kayleigh scored the games 12th goal that wouldn’t look out of place at any level of the game.
The striker struck ferociously from around 35 yards out just inside from the right into the top corner shaving the bar on the way in.
This goal concluded the scoring at 9-3. With moments to go all that was between Minehead and the league title was the referees final whistle.
As excitement built the whistle finally sounded like music to the ears. Minehead were officially crowned Somerset U15s Girls League Champions in emphatic fashion winning their 12th consecutive game from the 12 played.
Jubilant scenes prevailed as the girls gathered to congratulate each other on their incredible achievement.
Manager Dan Haran said: "It’s my privilege to coach this side. Everything they’ve achieved so far this season is down to their incredible efforts in training and on matchdays.
"Their love for football is clear to see. To be crowded champions is fitting and well deserved."
