A LORRY driver from Somerset has pleaded not guilty to causing the death by careless driving of an elderly pedestrian.

Trevor Biddiscombe, from Townsend Rise, Bruton, entered his plea at Bournemouth Crown Court.

The case follows the death of Roger Hills, 74, close to a village primary school.

Biddiscombe is charged in connection with the incident after which Mr Hills died in Churchfoot Lane, near Hazelbury Bryan Primary School in Hazelbury Bryan, on October 20, 2021.

Mr Hills was flown to Southampton General Hospital for treatment to serious injuries and died there on November 4, 2021.

The case against Biddiscombe was adjourned for trial on September 18 and he was released on bail.

Judge William Mousley KC told him: “Your trial will take place on September 18.

"Should you fail to attend, your trial may simply continue in your absence which might not be in your best interest.”
