THE Eco Centre South West is set to host the region's first Climathon.
The one day event will be held on Wednesday, April 26 at the County Ground in Taunton. Somerset businesses, organisations and environmentally minded people are encouraged to come together to think of ways to tackle climate-related problems.
Teams will be posed with a problem and asked to think of a solution, whether it be for pollution, energy use or waste. By working together, new ideas can flow between local businesses and consumers, giving a better insight into the environmental changes people want to see.
At the end of the day, each team will present their findings to a panel of judges.
Eco Centre director, Steve Howell, explains: “We know that climate change is happening, and recent events have shown that a lack of action makes our lives and livelihoods vulnerable to factors beyond our control.
"There are many brilliant solutions out there, but there are still more ideas and opportunities to explore. We know that bringing people together from a wide range of backgrounds is a great way of getting a new perspective and real catalyst for innovation.
"The Climathon is a platform to enable that. We’re excited to see to what ideas come out of the day and seeing them go on to be developed and put into action.”
Climathon Co-ordinator, Alice Taylor, adds: “We’re inviting everyone - businesses, local authorities, education and regional communities - to join us in fighting the climate crisis.
"It’s an exciting opportunity to improve our understanding of the challenges ahead, build new partnerships and create potential solutions.”
The event is one of the first in the South West Climate Action Programme, which is being organised and run by the Eco Centre.
The overall goal is to promote sustainable living to the public and businesses.
More information on the event itself and how to go about buying tickets can be found on the Eco Centre South West website.
