THATCHERS Gold has been named as the South West's best-selling draught pint according to analyst CGA.

Crafted in Somerset's Myrtle Farm in Sandford, an impressive 15.2 million pints of Thatchers Gold was sold in 2022 alone, illustrating the popularity of the drink.

This is the first time that any cider has overtaken beer or lager to the number one position for any region within the UK, according to analyst CGA.

The family run cider-maker has two of its best selling ciders in the top ten long alcoholic drinks (LEN) in the South West. Thatchers Haze is at number eight.

The brand at number two in the South West is Carling.

Other popular variations of Thatchers Cider includes:

  • Thatchers Rose.
  • Thatchers Cloudy Lemon.

  • Thatchers Zero.
  • Thatchers Vintage.
  • Thatchers Green Goblin.
  • Thatchers Rascal.
  • Thatchers Cider Barn.
  • Thatchers Stan's.
  • Thatchers Blood Orange.

Each flavour has a unique taste, meaning that there is always a cider you'll love.

Martin Thatcher, a fourth generation member of the Thatcher family, said: “Drinkers across the globe love Thatchers Gold – but there’s absolutely no doubt that here in the West Country it’s extra special! One in every two pints of apple cider poured in the West Country is a Gold.

“Its appeal starts right here at Myrtle Farm, where we craft Gold with the very best tasting apples. We have a saying that the best cider starts in the orchard, and that’s exactly the case with Gold."

Thatchers Gold was first produced at the farm around 20 years ago. Since then, it has seen consistent growth both in the South-West and worldwide.

Martin take pride in this, saying: “The recipe hasn’t changed at all over the years – when we first produced Gold we knew that we had struck on the perfect balance of fruitiness, tannin, sweetness and acidity.

"So, our cider makers continue to make Gold in the same way as we did 20 years ago, and with a brilliant team effort from everyone at Myrtle Farm, we continue to reach new audiences who love a beautifully refreshing pint.”
