WELLINGTON AFC chairman Mike Hall has paid tribute to Tim Legg who has announced that he is stepping down as joint first-team manager.
Tim made the announcement after last night’s final game of the season in the Toolstation League premier division, saying that he could no longer commit enough time to the role.
Mike said: “We cannot thank Tim enough for his hard work and commitment to Wellington AFC.
“He took the reins in 2019 and was faced with having to rebuild the squad virtually from scratch.
“However, he has done brilliantly in bringing in a group of players who are holding their own in a very tough premier division.
“The fact that we are now looking forward to yet another season at this challenging level is testimony to his efforts.
“Tim has been part of Wellington AFC since being a youth player and there will always be a warm welcome for him at our club.”
Mike said he would now be sitting down with Alex Pope (joint manager) and Richard Cherry (coach) to discuss next season.
He added: “I very much hope they will agree to continue and build on all the excellent work put in so far.”
Tim said he had taken the decision to step down with a heavy heart.
“This is due to not having the time needed to be a Western League premier manager as my work commitments and circumstances have changed.
“I have enjoyed the challenge and I’ve been honoured and privileged to be given the opportunity to manage my hometown and boyhood team.
“There have been many ups and downs during my tenure as a manager including good FA Vase runs, managing the seasons in the challenging Covid pandemic, and being a competitive outfit in the premier division.
“The most enjoyable part has been working with so many great people including the players, management team, committee, and supporters. I can’t thank them enough for all their commitment and support over the past three-and-a-half seasons.
“I must give special thanks to Michael Hall (chairman) for giving me the opportunity and Alex Pope (joint manager) for being by my side and who I have learned a great deal from.
“I’m looking forward to watching and supporting Wellington from behind the barriers and seeing them continue to progress.”
