TAUNTON Town's first season in the National League South saw them finish in 14th place in the league table.

It was a good season for the Peacocks who impressed in their first ever go at this level.

There have been some impressive statistics for Taunton this year, none more so than their defensive record.

Taunton conceded 55 goals in their 46 league games, scoring 50 so they finish with a goal difference of minus five.

However, the 55 goals conceded means Taunton had the equal sixth best defence across the league.

With a depleted and small squad, this Taunton Town set of players held their own against some much bigger clubs.

Their biggest win was in the Somerset Premier Cup against Odd Down when they won 7-0.

Their biggest National League South win was 4-1 at home against  Tonbridge Angels.

Taunton's longest unbeaten run in competitive games was 5 games and it came in September 17 to October 4, 2022.

The team's heaviest defeat was in the Emirates FA Cup away against MK Dons, they lost their 0-6.

And their heaviest league defeat was away against league winners Ebbsfleet, when Taunton lost 0-5.

The average home attendance in the National League South was 785.

In terms of goalscorers, Dave Sims-Burgess topped the charts at the club with 10 goals in all competitions this season.

He scored seven of those in league football and three more in cup competitions.

Fan favourite Ross Stearn found goalscoring form towards the end of the campaign and that saw him finish as second top scorer at the club.

He scored eight in league football and one in the cups to give him a total of nine goals.

Third place went to super sub Dylan Morgan who grabbed eight goals this season in league and cup football.

Rounding out the top five was defenders Zac Smith and Jake Wannell with five goals each.

In terms of appearances, Lloyd James, captain Nick Grimes and goalkeeper Jack Bycroft led the way.

They were ever-presents in Rob Dray's lineups with 51, 49 and 48 appearances in all competitions respectively.

Dray's favourite impact players were Dylan Morgan, Ross Stearn and Nick McCootie, who were used as substitutes a large number of times over the course of the season.

On to next season now for Taunton, well for the players a trip to Ibiza first, before a few weeks off and then back to pre-season, with friendlies likely to be played in July.
