A NORTON Fitzwarren couple had the day of their lives at a Buckingham Palace garden party this week to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Taunton Rugby Club stalwart Jack Matthews and his wife Ann were invited to the event on Tuesday (May 9), three days after Saturday's ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
And despite the torrential rainfall back home, they managed to stay dry before the rain arrived in London.
Jack said: "It was a memorable day at Buckingham Palace.
"And the weather was kind to the end despite the forecast."
Jack was invited to the garden party for 'services to the community'.
It was recognition of his 65 years' service to Taunton Rugby Club, where he has served as player, captain, chairman, president and fundraiser.
Jack and Ann had originally been invited to the palace during Queen Elizabeth's reign, although the event was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
One of Jack's top achievements at the rugby club was helping to oversee the move from Priory Park opposite the Cooper Associates County Ground to its current home in Hyde Park, Bathpool.
