A GROUP of travellers have been moved on from the Silk Mills Park & Ride in Taunton.

The last few members of the group cleared away this afternoon (Sunday, May 21) after Somerset Council went through the legal process to remove them.

Police were also involved in dealing with the group.

A spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Police said: "Caravans involved in an unauthorised encampment at the Silk Mills Park and Ride in Taunton moved on over the weekend.

"All the vehicles had left the park and ride site on Sunday 21 May after notice was served by the landowner, Somerset Council."

Councillor Mike Rigby added: "I am pleased to advise that the travellers have vacated the Silk Mills Park & Ride site.

"There is no damage to the building and a clean-up has already taken place so the Park & Ride service can resume as normal tomorrow morning and our Fleet Operations from the site will be provided as normal."

Police also confirmed that another group of travellers are still at Blackbrook Leisure Centre.

"Another encampment set up at Blackbrook Leisure Centre, Taunton, on Saturday 20 May and officers are in touch with leisure centre and council staff."
