STUDENTS at a secondary school could soon be playing football on an artificial grass pitch.
A planning application for a 3G pitch at Court Fields School, Wellington, has been submitted to planners at Somerset Council.
The proposal for the Mantle Street campus includes siting for a storage container, the installation of floodlights and other associated works.
If approved, the development would replace an existing grass playing field.
The application says the benefits of 3G pitches include high performance; high quality, enduring appearance; suitability within the local vernacular; durable and robust; low maintenance; and energy efficient and sustainable.
The floodlight masts would be 15 metres high, while there would also be a 4.5-metre high steel mesh ball stop fence around the perimeter of the pitch, along with 2.4-metre high and three=metre high entrance gates.
A two-metre high fence would be installed to improve safeguarding by making the school grounds more secure.
