A PROPOSED extension at the YMCA in Taunton will make the premsies more inviting to all members of the community.

A planning application for the project at the Lisieux Way facility has been submitted to Somerset Council.

The scheme would see a first floor extension featuring multi-function rooms with a kitchen area, storage room and sports hall viewing corridor.

A platform lift would be installed.

The existing first floor store would be converted into an accessible toilet.

The walls and roof extension would match the existing building.

A statement with the proposal sent to the council says: "The works will significantly enhance the general amenity of the existing building for users whilst making the building more accessible, inviting and inclusive to all members of the community.

"The extended building will enable the Taunton YMCA to deliver community-based provision whilst enhancing the current youth offer, including cooking, healthy eating training/experiences, sporting, physical, social activities and provision of ‘chill’ out areas for mental health.

"The provision of a platform lift and first floor accessible toilet facility will allow all facilities of the building to be accessible to allow access for all users of the building."
