POLICE are investigating suspected arson attempts in Wiveliscombe after two fires near garages that they believe could be linked.
Both fires took place in the Southgate area of the town on Sunday, June 11.
A spokesperson for Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said: “Upon arrival, crews confirmed that this was a fire involving furniture well alight next to a garage and also effecting the neighbouring garage.
“Crews used one hose reel jet and one thermal image camera to extinguish the fire. The cause of fire was deemed deliberate."
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “Enquiries are being carried out into suspected arson incidents in Wiveliscombe yesterday (Sunday, June 11).
“We were called by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service to two fires near garages in the Southgate area.
"We were informed by them about the first at about 3pm and the other about seven hours later.
“Officers attended on both occasions and both CCTV and house-to-house enquiries are ongoing.
“At this time we believe the two incidents to potentially be linked.
