APARTMENT owners at Churchill Retirement Living’s Riverain Lodge in Taunton welcome new members of the community to try their hand at an unusual throwing game called Kubb on the communal lawn.
Kubb is a simple Swedish game with characteristics similar to bowls or pétanque.
Its name stems from the term 'vedkubbar', which means 'wooden block' in the Gotland dialect of Swedish.
The game is played between two teams, with the aim of knocking over all the kubbs, and then the king, with throwing sticks before the opposing team does so.
Everyone enjoyed getting together in the sunshine to give the game a try and get to know their new neighbours at the event on Friday (August 11).
Churchill’s senior marketing executive Jo Ridehalgh said: “It was great to welcome our new apartment owners and see everyone enjoying themselves with this interesting new game.
"It’s a great example of the lifestyle on offer here, where our owners can enjoy comfort, security, independence and fewer maintenance worries, plus the option to socialise as much or as little as they like. It’s no wonder the apartments are selling fast.”
Riverain Lodge is a collection of one and two bedroom retirement apartments, designed for independent living close to the heart of town.
