A WOMAN who lost the wedding ring of her late grandad while swimming in the river Tone contacted a diver from the Lake District to find it.
Jessica Cooper Hogan, 21, realised she lost the ring of her grandad who brought her up while swimming near Wellington.
She tried to find it immediately afterward, but all her efforts were in vain.
With the help of her friends, she found the details of a diver who conducts searches in the Lake District in his spare time.
Last week she met him at Taunton railway station and took him to the river after contacting him and paying for the rail fare to come down to Somerset and look for her ring.
Jessica, who is originally from London but now lives in Wellington, said: “Literally, I jumped into the water on that really hot day and the moment I jumped in I felt the ring coming off my finger.
“We tried to find it, but we couldn’t. My friends looked online to check who found rings and came across a diver in the Lake District.
“The following week [last week, Wednesday, August 30] he came down and we met him at Taunton station.
"We took him down the river, he got changed and went in, and found the ring in 20 minutes.
“I was a bit worried we were not going to find it a week later. It must have gone into the river bed and stayed there.
“I honestly cried. My grandad only passed away a few months ago and the ring is the only thing I have left.
“When the diver found the ring I thought about my grandad and my grandma. It was quite overwhelming.”
