A DEVELOPER planning to convert two disused office blocks in Taunton into dozens of flats has revealed further details of the proposal.
There are plans to create a total of 69 one, two and three bedroom flats at Bedford House, in Park Street, which housed backroom Debenhams staff ahead of the company's collapse in over two years ago.
In a planning application lodged with Somerset Council, Chestnut Property Development Ltd is seeking permission to carry out a number of external alterations to the premises opposite County Hall.

The company is looking to replace glazing for improved ventilation and fire protection, instal Juliet balcony panels and rails, remove an external staircase, relocate car and cycle parking and instal an acoustic enclosure and remove the existing air conditioning from the roof.

A statement submitted with the application says: "The alterations described above are relatively minor and will improve the appearance of the building."
The proposed alterations to the car parking layout will result in the reduction of two spaces, which the applicant says "is considered acceptable in light of the site’s highly sustainable location".
Bedford House comprises two blocks - one of seven storeys, the other four floors high.
Hundreds of staff used to work in the premises until Debenhams went into administration in January 2021.
