Founder of A Million Meters, Guy Locke, from Cheddar, is set to face his biggest fundraising challenge yet on his own solo Million Metre Challenge.
This momentous challenge entails running the entire length of the South West Coast Path, writes Sara Badran.
Starting from October 1st, Guy will cover over 1000km, the equivalent of 24 marathons and climbing four times the height of Mount Everest, spending the whole month on the trail running 30-50km daily until the finish line in Minehead is reached.
Guy is hoping to complete the challenge on October 28th, having taken zero rest days.
This sheer determination, mental, and physical strength Guy is employing is in an extremely admirable bid to raise funds for Papyrus, a youth-focused mental health charity.
Guy explains, “I’m fundraising in memory of my mum, Ali, who took her own life back in November 2013, when I was 15.
"I’ve previously done fundraising for different charities, but this is the biggest challenge I’ve set myself to date, and I’ve already raised over £3000 for Papyrus, my target is to raise £10,000.”
Papyrus envisions a society which speaks openly about suicide and has the resources to help young people who may have suicidal thoughts through their mission “to reduce the number of young people who take their own lives by shattering the stigma around suicide and equipping young people and their communities with the skills to recognise and respond to suicidal behaviour.”
Guy’s ambitious solo challenge embodies the transparency needed to break the taboo of suicide as well as raise awareness of the issue through his charity fundraising.
With suicide being the biggest killer of under 35s in the UK, Guy’s cause is extremely honourable and is ensured to help many individuals feel supported, seen and heard all around the country.
Guy himself will be documenting his astonishing journey as he intends to post daily content on his Instagram, @adventuresofguy, as well as tracking and updating his progress on the www.amillionmeters.co.uk website.
