A YELLOW weather warning for strong winds has been issued by the Met Office, with areas of Somerset set to be affected.
It will come into effect from 10am this Wednesday September 27, until 7am the following morning.
The Met Office warning reads: "A spell of strong winds is expected to move northeast through Wednesday, with a small chance that they could be significantly disruptive.
"There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris.
"There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.
"There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.
"Longer journey times are likely, or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected. Some roads and bridges are likely to close.
"There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties; with a chance of some minor flooding of coastal roads.
The Met Office's five tips for staying safe in strong wind.
- Check for loose items outside your home and plan how you could secure them in high winds.
- Plan your route before driving, and keep essentials such as a blanket and food in your car.
- Try to avoid driving where possible. If you must drive, keep to a slow speed and ensure to leave extra space to cyclists, motorcyclists, buses, and lorries.
- If you live on the coast, check forecasts and tides in your local area, and beware of large waves.
- Stay indoors as much as possible. Avoid walking near buildings and trees if outside due to possible debris.
