A GREAT grandfather from Taunton has released two albums of songs some of which were hits while he was still at school.

Brian Singh, 76, of Bishop's Hull, booked into a recording studio in Middlezoy to record his own versions of famous songs from the 50s and 60s.

Brian, who was a well-known window cleaner in the county town, is donating takings from the albums to support sick and injured Ukrainians.

Among the songs he has recorded are ‘Rhythm of the Rain’ by The Cascades, ‘Send Me the Pillow that you Dream on’ (Dean Martin), ‘Sea of Love’ (Marty Wilde), Diana (Paul Anka) and ‘Forget Him’ (Bobby Rydel).

With his transistor turned up loud, Brian often listened to the hits on Radio Luxembourg as he walked around the streets of Taunton with his pals in the early 60s.

He felt arrangements by some other singers were inferior to the originals so decided to give it a go himself, recording 12 songs for his first album, Dreams Do Come True, and a further 23 for his second, Hearthrobs and Winklepickers.

In the first six months of 2023, Ukraine had 15,000 war amputees, so the country urgently needs more crutches, walkers, zimmers, hospital beds, mattresses and Combat Application Tourniquet (CAT).

Brian said: "I don’t think my seven great grandchildren ever thought I’d become a recording artist at this time in my life, but this is such an important cause.

"I’ve raised over £500 so far and would like to do more."
