A VILLAGE playing field just outside Taunton has been judged the best in Somerset.
Trull's King George V Park was named the county's Playing Field of Year by Somerset Playing Fields' Association.
Trull parish councillors Martine Naughton and Jo Wooldridge received the award of a cup and a cheque from Chris Davies, Somerset Deputy Lieutenant, at a ceremony in Woolavington attended by community groups from across Somerset who oversee playing fields and play areas.
The Trull park was particularly commended for its immaculate presentation and provision of play and sports facilities.
Cllr Naughton said: "This award is for the people of Trull and all of the volunteers that help us maintain our park.
"As a parish council, we chose to create a space for a broad demographic, offering everyone in the community a place to meet, exercise and enjoy the outdoor space.
"We are delighted our hard work and creativity has been recognised."
Trull Parish Council's win follows significant investment in the park earlier this year.
A consultation with the community led to the installation of new log-based play equipment, new paths including distance markers, gym equipment, goal posts and wooden picnic benches.
All have been well received by the public, attracting families from all over Taunton.
Since its completion in April, the park has hosted a party in the park, various sporting fixtures, the village gardening club and a weekly story time for children throughout the summer holidays called The Trull Story-Teller.
On November 4, the park will host its popular fireworks display.
